INPS Field Trip(s) to Lafayette and Center Ridge Cemetery Prairies in Keokuk County
Our two field trips were led by Mark Leoschke, Botanist for the Wildlife Bureau of the Iowa DNR, along with Mr. Eric D. Adams, District Conservationist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Muscatine County. In addition, Eric also is the groundskeeper for the Lafayette cemetery. Thank you to both field trip leaders! We cannot offer these opportunities without the help of volunteers.
There was a total of nine brave souls were in attendance on a very warm and humid late June weekend.
The following is a brief, incomplete list of native forbs and grasses observed:
Illinois tick trefoil, prairie willow, butterfly milkweed, lead plant, blazing star, dog bane/Indian hemp, whorled milkweed, common milkweed, fleabane, Indiangrass, big bluestem, little bluestem, black-eyed susan, and yellow coneflower
